Butcher's mince offer in a league of its own
BEN GEORGE, of Richmond Valley Meats in Casino, is putting his mince where his mouth is.
The die-hard South Sydney Rabbitohs fan will offer his customers a beefy discount if his team beats the Gold Coast Titans when they clash at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney tonight.
His premium mince, which normally sells for about $8 a kilogram, will be $5 for one week starting from Monday, providing the Rabbitohs get tonight's winning points. Mr George reckons it will be the cheapest mince in Northern NSW.
Mr George said he often talked to his customers about football and that was where the idea for the unusual promotion came from. And if the Rabbitohs win it will make it all worthwhile.
“It would be good to see the underdogs win,” he said. However, the Titans are tipped as the favourites.
Mr George has supported the Rabbitohs since their comeback five years ago. They were forced out of the NRL in 1999 for failing to comply with the league's selection criteria.
However, the historic club, backed by its die-hard supporters, including actor Russell Crowe and TV personality Andrew Denton, fought the decision in court and won. The club was readmitted to the premiership for the 2002 season.
Richmond Valley Meats is located in the BI-LO shopping complex in Casino, and does not put rabbit in its mince.
