BUSTED: Driver snapped texting at 110kmh in the wet

KATHERINE Carter snapped the photo of this young woman texting while driving her car with her knees in the 110kmh zone on the Bruce Highway in wet conditions on Sunday.

The Century 21 Coastal real estate agent only had one thought "what were they thinking?"

Mrs Carter was the passenger in her husband, Luke's, Landcruiser and could clearly see into the car of the women as they were driving on the highway in traffic.

They were driving south, towards Brisbane and were near the North Lakes off-ramp when they were driving next to the car.

"It had just stopped raining, but it was on and off and the roads were wet," Mrs Carter said.

"Because the Landcruiser sits higher up, we could clearly see what they were doing.

"They were old enough to be knowing not to do this. The driver wasn't even wearing a seatbelt."

Only a week earlier Mrs Carter had seen another car, this time a BMW, swerving along Nicklin Way as its female driver was texting on the road.

"It is so prevelent it is terrible," she said.

"It makes worried there will be a lot more fatal accidents because the woman at the helm is texting."

As it is one Sunshine Coast teenager, Meghan Catherine Hopper, received a suspended sentence for dangerous driving causing death in 2013.

Ms Hopper told police she had been looking at Google maps on her phone when she accidentally struck and killed Taiwanese fruit-picker Chen-Chuan Yang, 25, and severely injured Kwan-Jun Wu, 30, on July 7, 2012.
