Businesses welcomed into Star Court Arcade
FOUR new businesses have been welcomed into the Star Court Arcade community in the last three months.
Magella and Mildred and Allison the Cake Maker both opened this week, while Mass Nutrition and Wild at Heart opened at the end of last year.
Dressmaker Jennifer McLennan sells her handmade clothing at Magella and Mildred as part of her own label, Miss Mildred.
She said owning a shop in the arcade really did feel like working in a little community.
"You're chatting to all the other shopkeepers and if we're not busy we'll meet in the middle and keep an eye on our shops and just chat," Ms McLennan said.
Magella and Mildred co-founder Beverly Tainsh was the owner of Magella Rose on Magellan St, Lismore.
She makes cushions, sells vintage and antique items as well as a range of bed linen and bamboo towels, and restores small pieces of furniture.
"We're still working independently on our own businesses but we're sharing the space," she said.
"We complement each other."
Kevin Fricke, the owner of Mass Nutrition, recently moved to Ballina.
"We've had a lot of local support," he said. "Lismore is such a friendly town."
He stocks primarily Australian and some American products, from holistic health to advanced sports nutrition products.
Allison Wilson has been a chef for many years and said she felt it was time to open her own shopfront.
Her store is called Allison the Cake Maker.
"I had a business in Sydney a while ago selling cakes to restaurants and cafes," she said.
"I do occasion cakes, everyday cakes, pots of tea, plunger coffee and I also do frozen meals that I deliver to people's homes."
Her gourmet meal home delivery service is called Queen of Hearts.
Sharon Poles, the owner of Little Polli and the Blackbird, opened her second store, Wild at Heart, in November.
"The emphasis of this shop is that everything here is under $150," she said.
"There's lots of great Australian brands out there so we thought we'd add a couple more to Lismore."
The Star Court Arcade is located off Molesworth St between Magellan and Woodlark Streets.
