Entrepreneurial business workshops

LOCAL businesses are being advised to start planning now for a successful 2012.

To help local entrepren- eurs on their way this year the Northern Rivers Business Enter- prise Centre (BEC) will again be offering business development workshops through their Thrive and Survive program.

The workshops; Become an Entrepreneur - Start your own Business; and Developing a Business Plan That Works will be running throughout the region during late January and early February.

Louise Nicholson is one local business owner who has taken advantage of the seminars over the years.

Her business, Blue Kitchen Gourmet Foods, makes a range of gourmet foods, condiments and preserves in Lismore, selling mostly to markets in Sydney and Melbourne.

"It took me a while to realise the workshops were available and that they were such a great resource for the local business community." Ms Nicholson said.

"In a micro business like ours with a small staff we are multi-tasking and carrying out a variety of roles.

"We are time-poor but I always make the time to attend and I would encourage others to do the same."

Tony Zillig, CEO of the Northern Rivers BEC, said the workshops were practical and interactive.

"The only way to get your business to where you want it is to have a clear vision and a plan to get there," said Mr Zillig.

"A business plan should not only set your goals at the time of your launch, it should keep you on track as you build your business."

Mr Zillig said attendees at Become an Entrepreneur - Start your own Business Seminar would learn business fundamentals, including an overview of the realities of going into business, an outline of start-up costs, and the information required to assess the viability of a business idea.

"The workshop; Developing a Business Plan that Works will support businesses as they prepare their plans and offer ongoing planning strategies," he said.

The Start Your Own Business workshop will be delivered in Lismore and Tweed heads on Monday January 30 and Grafton and Byron Bay on Tuesday, January 31.

The Developing a Business Plan That Works workshop will be held in Lismore on Tuesday, February 14 , Grafton on Wednesday, February 15, Tweed Heads on Tuesday, February 21 and Byron Bay on Wednesday, February 22.

The cost is $27.50 and all sessions run from 5.30pm-8pm.
