Burst water main in Ballina nearly swallows van.
BALLINA Shire Council staff are on the way to Martin St to repair a burst water main that started to swallow a parked van.
The water main that supplies the Ballina CBD burst at about 10am.
Police have blocked half of Martin St off to traffic as water continues to shoot from the hole in the about 4 metres in the air.
The front passenger wheel of a white Volkswagen van that was parked near the corner of River and Martin streets began to sink into the hole made by the burst water main.
The van was moved just in time after it continued to sink which left the rear drivers side wheel 8 inches off the ground.
It is anticipated fixing the burst main will take several hours.
