Burlesque turning ladies into vamps

IN THE mood for some risque comedy to emphasise your femininity?

Northern Rivers ladies can become a sexy goddess for a day, have some fun and keep an enduring picture of their transformation.

A Pin-up Perfection Workshop will be held today at the Byron Entertainment Centre, Byron Bay (bookings on 0431 291 321 or via byronentertainmentcentre.com.au).

In charge of the transformations and glamourising will be Head Mistress La Viola Vixen, experienced provocateur and owner of the Bombshell Burlesque and Beauty Academy, based in Brisbane.

In this pin-up workshop you will have your vintage hair and makeup done by Bombshell's vintage beauty team led by Haylee Comet, be burlesque/pin-up dressed, and Viola Vixen will guide you through classic poses that are flattering for each type of body.

"Burlesque promotes femininity in all women, with an empowering message," Head Mistress Vixen explained.

"It is not so much developed for men but for the women on stage to enjoy most."

The photo package includes two photos with each pin-up's burlesque name printed on them by Kahlia Litzow.

Asked about the resurgence of burlesque in the late '90s, and the fact it is still quite popular, La Viola Vixen explained: "There was a need for live female performances that allowed them to feel in control and empowered, which is healthy and promotes a positive role for women of all types.

"And it's sexy and fun. Women can enjoy their sexual side without it being shameful, because it is not done to please men but themselves."

Head Mistress Vixen promises a fun afternoon with the girls, which "as always features complimentary bubbles and nibbles". Male pin-ups are also welcome on the day if they want to try their hand at 'boylesque', the male counterpart of burlesque.

Local pin-ups are asked to bring with them their favourite burlesque/pin-up outfits, shoes and accessories.

Also basic makeup such as foundation, concealer, and powder if possible. Head Mistress Vixen said they would have some supplies but might not have all shades available.

"We will have some costume pieces, fascinators, props etc to help you create burlesque perfection," she said.

Each shoot will be tailored and stylised to suit you and your own glamour look.

You will learn classic pin-up poses and be provided with the props to complement them, such as feather fans, parasols, boas and corsets.

Pin-ups will receive their best photos via email within two weeks of the workshop.
