Budget is far from in the green

THE environment was the biggest loser in the Budget, Greens candidate for Page, Jeff Johnson, said.

“The extra funding for our health system and apprentices and training positions is welcome,” he said.

“But climate change is still the elephant in the room for this Budget. It barely rates a mention.

“The Greens are disappointed that there is still more money for coal than for renewable energy.”

Cr Johnson said the $652 million for renewable energy and energy efficiency was not good enough.

“This Government cares more about building ‘Fortress Australia’, with over $2 billion for border protection and detention centres,” he said.

But Page MP Janelle Saffin said funding renewable energy and energy efficiency programs would help local households save money on their power bills.

“The Government is committed to reducing our carbon pollution and tackling climate change,” she said.
