Buderim couple celebrates 76 years of marriage

ANY great team can last, and Daphne and Stan Burton are proof of that.

The Buderim couple celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary last Friday, saying the milestone was simply testament to how much they loved and cared for each other over the years.

Daphne, who will turn 103 on May 13, is joined by Stan, 97, in the hospital of Immanuel Gardens Retirement Village every day.

Stan said working as a team was what made their marriage so successful.

"We work very much as a team all the time," he said.

"We were always both interested in the same occupations.

"We've always been happy to work together and have ideas for lots of things.

"She's such a good person."

Having been inseparable since their engagement 1937, Daphne and Stan have experienced much together.

The couple lived in Papua New Guinea for six years after they were married in Townsville, until the outbreak of World War II.

Stan joined the army while in New Guinea and Daphne returned to Australia, where she was involved in the war effort.

They went on to own a business together in north Queensland for about 30 years until they decided to settle down in Buderim 32 years ago.

In terms of celebrations to mark the big milestone, the couple took the day easy, simply enjoying each other's company and another day together.
