Buckley skips way to win

THE weather gods were kind to Tweed-Byron District Women Bowlers when they took to the greens at Byron Bay Bowling Club on Monday.

Heavy rain overnight had threatened the event but the skies cleared in the morning allowing 60 bowlers from the region to take to the front green.

Two games of 12 ends were played with the main trophy decided by wins and margins.

The District Presidents team comprising Di Lobb (lead), Jan Appleton (second), Jan Richards (third) and skip Doreen Buckley claimed overall honours.

Byron Bay Women's Bowling Club president Una Snelling said she was thrilled by the turnout.

"This is especially so with Byron Bay fielding two teams of mainly novice bowlers," Ms Snelling said.

"The club is welcoming new members and inviting any women interested in trying out bowling to come along any Tuesday at 9am."
