Mandy Brown in fine form with bat, scores 3 home runs
MANDY Brown scored three home runs in the third round of Far North Coast Softball at the weekend.
Tight batting, fielding and pitching was on display when Casino and Goonellabah played out a 13-all draw.
Leanne Levett did a great job while pitching for Goonellabah and 13 must have been Casino's lucky number because the team also scored 13 runs against the Woodburn Wonders later in the day to again tie 13-all.
Sue Clarke pitched consistently to Amy Gordon in the Dodgers Devils match against Rous Rangers.
Some great outfield catches by Roz Weaver and Ally Quinton, and strong batting from Amy Gordon, Betty McPaul and pick-up player Mandy Brown saw the Dodgers win 9-6.
Byron Bay proved to be no match for the Rous Warriors with pitcher Ester Denning's consistent pitching and batting and Weaver's outstanding job at catcher.
Tracey Johnston caught well for Byron and was best with the bat.
Goonellabah's second match of the day was against Dodgers Demons in what proved to be a close match.
Sharon Foster pitched well for Goonellabah and Amber Hill was best with the bat.
Vi Jannisson hit a triple for the Dodgers, and Clare Busch scored a home run.
In what was an exciting play, Lauren Fletcher had a tag out at third base and threw to first for a double out. Dodgers went on to win 19-13.
The Blues Sistas romped home against the Workers Mighty Ducks with solid batting and great fielding.
Amy Shaw hit a home run and Nicole Andrew worked solidly with Ellie Blume to control the in-field play.
In the end the Sistas were too strong for the Ducks, beating them 16-0.
The Woodburn Whippets beat the Workers Wild Turkeys 16-2 in a game which saw Shantana Berry hitting a home run, a solid two bagger from Talarra Berry, and solid hits from Renee Blaikie, Sam Dransfield, Christina Costello and Maryanne Brown.
Lauren Forrester took two catches for the Turkeys.
In the final match of the day the Workers Condors beat the Ballina Sharks 6-1.
Strong pitching from Leah von Wettering and solid fielding kept Ballina searching for runs.
Two good catches by Courtney Connell at second base plus a great line drive reflex catch by Tracey Johnston at third base closed the game for the Workers.
