Bronze for the Silver Sands

SILVER Sands Holiday Park at Evans Head has been recognised for its social and environmental activities by being presented with a bronze Gumnut Award.

Awarded for its commitment to sustainable business practices, the park received the award at the 2012 Caravan and Camping Awards of Excellence gala dinner, held on July 25 at the Fairmont Resort in Leura.

Lyndel Gray, chief executive officer of the Caravan, Camping and Touring Industry and Manufactured Housing Industry Association of NSW (CCIA), said the Gumnut Awards were the association's eco-rating program.

"The Gumnut Award program assists businesses to develop environmentally and socially responsible management policies and practices that will lead the industry into a sustainable future," she said.

"The program focuses on 10 categories covering economic, social and environmental aspects, with each level of the program - bronze, silver and gold - representing increased commitment to sustainability."

To achieve its bronze award, Silver Sands met benchmarked criteria across 10 categories including energy efficiency, water and wastewater, biodiversity and local community.

The Gumnut Awards were developed in consultation with the University of Western Sydney and all applications for the program are independently assessed to ensure their credibility.
