Brit clocks fastest time in the wet at Phillip Island

MOTORSPORT: Poor weather played havoc with practice for the Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island today.

British rider Cal Crutchlow had the quickest time in the first practice in dangerous and wet conditions, clocking 1 minute 40.957 seconds for the fastest lap on his LCR Honda.

However, conditions worsened and the second session was cancelled because of the state of the track.

The third session was planned for tomorrow morning, but the schedule will have to be changed.

In the first session nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi was second, but his Movistar Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo struggled in the conditions to clock the 20th-fastest time.

Australia's Jack Miller was fourth quickest on his Marc VDS Honda, with new MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez in fifth.

The only other Australian on the grid, Mike Jones on a Avintia Racing Ducati, was 14th.

After a third session tomorrow, the top 10 riders will go through to second qualifying to battle for pole position.
