Brisbane chef not sure why he's the MasterChef "villain"

WIN OR lose, MasterChef: The Professionals finalist Rhett Willis has vowed to stay in Queensland.

The Brisbane-based chef plans to open his own restaurant if he wins the show's grand finale on Sunday night.

The winner of the inaugural Professionals series will receive $200,000, a round-the-world trip and access to some of the world's top chefs.

"It's huge marketing for yourself, so you've got to take your opportunities while they're there," Willis said.

"It (my restaurant) will definitely be in Queensland."

Willis said he was glad he went on the show, even if he was being perceived as the "villain" over the past week.

"I think I'm the villain now. I don't know where any of that came from," he said.

"What you see is what you get really with me on the show.

"I would love to win the show, but there's no point in changing just for a show. I'll do what I do and hopefully it's enough."

At 33, he is the oldest of the three finalists with Byron's Rhys Badcock aged 29 and Sarah Knights aged 27.

While Knights is the favourite to win the series, Willis said all three chefs had their strengths.

"If it's a challenge where you've got to replicate something then Rhys is great at that. He takes good direction," he said.

"If it's something French or quite fine dining then you've probably got Sarah in there for that, and if it's something where you come up with your own stuff then I think that's probably my best chance."

MasterChef: The Professionals grand final airs Sunday at 7.45pm on Ten.
