Brillante ready to pull trigger more often

FOOTBALL: Bundaberg's Josh Brillante said he would have to shoot more often after his wonder strike set up a 3-0 win for Sydney FC in Saturday night's A-League semi-final win over Perth.

The Sky Blues made it through to next week's grand final with a 3-0 success over the Glory in Sydney.

Brillante has now scored two A-League goals, the first a 20-metre strike last December.

Saturday's effort was even more spectacular, a 30-metre effort which flew into the top corner past Liam Reddy to give the Minor Premiers an early lead.

Brillante felt an ideal range and acres of space had created the perfect recipe at Allianz Stadium and that he should try and pull the trigger more often.

"I think scoring that goal kind of helped us, fired us up a little bit and from then on we got going," the 24-year-old midfielder said.

"I have just got to try and take my chances when they come more often and build a bit of confidence to have a strike instead of maybe passing it off.

"That is about as close as I get to the goals, so you have to take those chances when you get them."

Midfield partner Brandon O'Neill was thrilled for his teammate but not surprised as he had been firing in some long-range strikes in training.

"As soon as he takes that touch out of his feet you know where it is going, and he hit it so sweetly," O'Neill said.
