Break and enter at Ballina Fair

POLICE are investigating after four stores at Ballina Fair were broken into overnight.

Ballina police acting Inspector Jackie Lilley said police were called to the shopping centre on Kerr St at about 2.20am after reports of a break-in at Ballina Fair shopping centre.

"When police arrived they found an offender had forced entry to the shopping centre through a side door," she said.

Insp Lilley said once inside the offender, who was disguised by a balaclava, broke into four stores, stealing jewellery from one store.

At this stage it is not known if anything else was stolen until shop keepers check their stock.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the break-in and have seized implements, including screwdrivers, from the scene for forensic examination.

A man described as being 183cm tall with a solid build was captured on CCTV footage.

He was wearing a dark jumper and dark coloured tracksuit pants, a black balaclava and was carrying a red bag and a black bag.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
