Brains and beauty

Don't underestimate the Miss Mooloolaba contestants.

They may have sizzling bodies but they also have the brains to match and will bring both to the 2007 Miss Mooloolaba grand final this Thursday at the Wharf Tavern.

Miss Mooloolaba 2006 winner, Jess Brewst said the girls who entered competitions were often labelled unintelligent or bimbos.

“This is a not the case at all, most of them are just trying to get through uni and get some exposure, plus earn a bit of money along the way,” she said.

Jess, who is completing a Bachelor of Health Science at the Australian College of Natural Medicine in Brisbane, said the competition was the first of its kind that she had entered.

Despite the girls having to participate in a competitive environment, Jess said there had been no major dramas or cat-fights between the contestants.

“To the contrary,” she said. “All of the girls were really supportive and we learnt a lot from each other,” she said.

Jess said even though it was a competition, it was important for the finalists to have fun with the process and to enjoy the ride. She said one of the most enjoyable things about entering the competition was the people who she met along the way.

The competition which has been running for 18 years on the Coast offers contestants an introduction to modelling and photography. This year’s winner will walk away with a huge bounty of prizes made up of $1000 dollars in cash and many other prizes.

After three competitive heats and plenty of gorgeous women, the winner of Miss Mooloolaba 2007 will be crowned this Thursday at the Wharf Tavern. The grand final, which kicks off from 9.30pm also doubles as uni night on the Sunshine Coast.
