Bowls: Pairs contest draws region’s top talent

SOME of the region's best bowls' players were at the Cherry St club yesterday for the start of the Ballina Bowls Summerland Series now in its 52nd year.

The Pairs started yesterday and included 136 competitors battling for part of the total tournament prize money of $24,500.

The Pairs will run over three days until tomorrow ahead of the singles tournament on Saturday.

For the first time the players' performance in the singles would contribute to the official Australia rankings, which said a lot about the how the tourna- ment was run, Ballina club president Paul Flood said.
