Bowlo cabins to bring in tourists

HOLIDAYING, staying overnight or for a weekend in Evans Head just got a little easier.

The new Evans Head Bowling Club cabins are now open for business, and interest has been brisk.

"We had our first customers on the night the cabins were officially opened (February 16)," club manager Roger Hong said.

"We already have bookings for next summer holidays as well."

The variety of accommodation available in the new Beech St address includes motel style, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom cabins.

"There are 20 apartments and all have cooking facilities, except the six motel units," Mr Hong said.

"Each of the rooms has a flat-screen TV with Austar, Keno and sport.

"There is a washer/dryer, microwave and fridge in each of the cabins as well."

Mr Hong said there had been plenty of interest in the cabins, especially from those wanting weekend escapes and from tourist groups.

Two of the cabins have ramps into and throughout the rooms, along with seats in the showers, allowing for disabled access as well.

Mr Hong said most of the work was done by local tradesmen, injecting about $500,000 into the local economy.

"We are wanting to bring in and do as much business for our local people as possible," he said.

"That's also why we're sponsoring the Evans Head Ocean Swim this year.

"Hopefully it will bring plenty of tourists into town."

Interested parties can make bookings for the cabins through the office at the Evans Head Bowling Club.
