Bowlers shine on for Joyce

WHILE rain ruined the usual timing of the Joyce Gaggin Memorial Triples event at East Lismore Bowling Club this year, the heat has kept many of the usual competitors away.

The event was to be held in June, but rained washed away any chance of playing the annual event.

Instead it was shifted to this week, but the hot conditions have kept numbers down on the usual turnout.

That hasn't stopped some top-class bowling taking place, with about 60 players representing 20 teams from across the region.

The event started on Tuesday, quarter-finals and semi-finals were held yesterday, and the finalists will play today for a first prize of $180 out of a total prize pool of $1275.

The money was donated by the late Bill Gaggin to commemorate his wife, Joyce, who was a keen bowler at East Lismore until she died in the 1980s.
