Bruns caravan parks in spotlight after boundaries outcry

THE NSW Government is keeping quiet about whether licences will be renewed for three caravan parks in Brunswick Heads following accusations the parks had "misled" authorities about their boundaries encroaching on public foreshore.

Greens MP Jan Barham made a call in parliament for the adoption of the parks' management plans to be revoked.

She said there may have been misleading information about the boundaries and concerns the plans put at risk "the natural, European and cultural heritage of the area as well as the provision of affordable housing".

Three accommodation centres, which all lie on Crown land, are under review - Massey Greene, Terrace Reserve and Ferry Reserve holiday parks.

All three are operated by North Coast Holiday Parks, a subsidiary of the State Government-appointed NSW Crown Holiday Parks Trust.

They were previously run by Byron Shire Council and were controversially taken over by the State Government during Ms Barham's tenure as Byron Shire mayor.

The foreshores they would allegedly encroach upon are managed by the trust, Byron Shire Council and the Crown Lands office.

Primary Industries, Lands and Water Minister Niall Blair said community outcry had forced the government to look closely at the issue, but could not answer whether the licences would be revoked.

"More than 150 submissions were received from the community following a two-month exhibition period, which ran from December 2013 to February 2014, with 173 issues raised," he said.

"The trust undertook a comprehensive review and consideration of submissions received from the community and made 41 changes to the plans prior to them being adopted.

"I understand that there is community concern about the plans of management. I cannot commit to suspending the plans of management at the moment."

Mr Blair said he would seek further information and report back to parliament.
