IRANIAN-BORN Dina Nayeri immigrated to Oklahoma in the United States at the age of 10.

This meant that she enjoyed freedom and the opportunity for education, largely denied her friends at home.

Dina has a BA from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard.

Although fiction, her story is based on her own upbringing and experiences.

In 1980s Iran, 11-year-old Saba is left behind with her father when her mother and twin sister Mahtab disappear.

Feeling that instinct that twins have, Saba is certain that they have moved to America without her.

As she struggles with the limitations of her village life and the scant possibilities open to her as a woman, Saba fantasises about a parallel life to that of her sister.

As the saying goes, "All fate is written in the blood".

The scene switches between the lives of the two sisters, one in Iran, the other in America.

Ironically, and despite her opportunities, Mahtab dreams of the beautiful country she left behind.

Dina Nayeri's touching novel mingles Persian fable with modern prose to produce a heart-warming and poetic story.
