Bonalbo Central maintains great tradition on water

BONALBO Central School canoeing team has claimed trophies in the NSW Combined High Schools and NSW All Schools championships.

Seventeen students competed in flat water sprints on the Clarence River at Grafton and white water sprints, slalom and wild water down river events at Nymboida.

Catriona Bain was the overall female champion for the NSW Combined High Schools and All Schools competitions.

All participants competed exceptionally well, contributing greatly to the strong overall school result.

In 2012 Bonalbo were the NSW All Schools champions but it has not been since 1999 that both trophies have gone at Bonalbo.

The team's volunteer coach David Whitney and sports teacher Shaun Flannery made it possible for the many first-time canoeists to compete so successfully.
