'Bomber' kills himself in custody

A SYRIAN migrant suspected of planning a bomb attack on a German airport has suicided in a prison cell in Leipzig. Jaber Albakr, 22, arrived in Germany last year and investigators believe he was close to staging an attack similar to those that killed 130 people in Paris in November and 32 in Belgium in March. Spiegel Online reported that Albakr had been under 24-hour surveillance in custody because of a hunger strike and an acute risk of suicide. Police believe he had links to Islamic State. Albakr was arrested on Monday after three Syrians tied him up.
