Yamba boat sinking a mystery
AS HE watched emergency services rope off around his boat Kathryn-L, which had sunk in Yamba Boatharbour, Peter Dwyer was understandably upset.
"Mate, it's just devastating," Mr Dwyer said. "It's going to be a fairly awful week."
The former trawler Mr Dwyer used as a pleasure boat was checked on by a friend about 5.30am and by 7.30am it was almost completely submerged.
Along with the uninsured boat, thousands of dollars of equipment was destroyed.
Yamba Fire captain David Woods said the fire brigade were called to the trawler about 10am.
"We were informed there was around 200 litres of diesel fuel on the boat," Mr Woods said.
"We've put down a boom to contain any spills that come out, and we'll also put down a secondary boom around the vessel."
"At this stage, we can't really tell definitely how it's gone down," Mr Dwyer said.
"The crane may be available on Wednesday to lift the boat out, and then we might be able to find out what happened to it."
