Bluesfest gig for Iron Heart

WHEN Grace Hughes received her second Dolphin Award of the night in last year's NCEIA Awards, she never imagined that the accolade would take her on stage at Bluesfest.

Pretty Girl, from her debut EP, Straight Lines (2014), won the Youth and Pop Dolphin Awards.

Besides a trophy, the 16-year-old Trinity student will get to sing the Bluesfest Busker's Stage at Easter.

Grace also won a $500 guitar from Planet Music to be presented to her school next month, plus a $300 mentorship for her at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium.

Grace has released online the music video of her latest single, Iron Heart, another song from Straight Lines.

Directed by Matthew Cumming, the music video for Iron Heart took six days to shoot and used locations such as the Bangalow A&I Hall, the Ewingsdale Hall and rural settings at The Channon and the Mullumbimby Civic Hall.

Annette McKenzie, Matthew Cumming's wife, was the makeup artist for the video.

"The video had nearly 2000 views in the first two weeks, which is really exciting for me because I am reaching new audiences and people are giving me positive feedback on social media," Grace said.

"From the video, I'm starting to get more people visiting my Facebook page and that's really exciting.

Although her main focus is still on her studies, she is already expressing an interest in fashion and acting.

The singer's heart is on pop music and she is hoping her future will be down that path.

"Straight Lines is an acoustic pop release, but in my new tracks I will be going into a more commercial pop sound.

"That will be path that I will follow and the market I'll try to break into."

Straight Lines is available via iTunes. The music video for Iron Heart is available on YouTube.
