Big Joke theft no laughing matter

BANGALOW’s Big Joke Festival ended on a sour note with the discovery of a large sum of money missing.

Festival director Jay Allison estimated that more than $15,000 had disappeared from the takings some time before Monday night.

He told local radio that he was shocked and saddened by the discovery and that he had recounted the money several times before realising something was amiss.

More than one thousand people attended the four-day festival at nearly $50 per head. Police have been called in.

Cathy Martin who handled the festival’s media and advertising said it was a real shock.

“Hopefully the police will get to the bottom of it,” she said.
