Big field turns out for Byron Bay Ocean Paddle

ABOUT 113 competitors turned out for the Byron Bay Ocean Paddle making 2014 one of the biggest years for the event.

Jeremy Collins won the Open Men's division with a time of 46:01.6,while local paddler Kim Chappel took out the Open Women's division in a time of 56:03.2.

The event featured paddlers from as far as Mooloolaba to Sydney with the race covering a distance of 12km. It raised funds for the Byron Bay Surf Club and the Byron Bay Preschool.

"The volunteers that help make this a great event to run, we couldn't do this without the help of the Byron Bay Surf Club," organiser Pete Hogan said.
