Better Boating Program provides funds

CLARENCE MP Steve Cansdell is encouraging local boating enthusiasts to identify proposals for new or improved recreational boating infrastructure projects in their area.

Mr Cansdell said the NSW Government's “Better Boating Program” provided funding to assist councils and other agencies in providing new and improved boating facilities that benefit a broad cross-section of the boating public.

"The program provides support, generally on a dollar for dollar basis, to local councils, other agencies and community groups for projects such as public wharves/jetties, boat ramps, sewage pump-out facilities and dinghy storage,” he said.

"Community input from frequent users of waterways is invaluable when identifying suitable locations for such facilities, or it may be that a current facility needs upgrading.

"I would encourage anybody that sees a need for improved boating facilities in the Clarence and Richmond Valleys to get in touch with their council to see if it might be a project eligible for funding under the Better Boating Program."

Applications close 29 July 2011. Guidelines and information on the program are available on the NSW Maritime website www.maritime.nsw.gov.au.
