Beef Queen and Queen’s rep enjoyed Beef meets Reef
THE Queen’s representative in New South Wales, the new Queen of Beef Week and many local identities were among hundreds who took part in yesterday’s Beef Meats Reef at Evans Head.
The event is all about showcasing what Evans Head has to offer, and strengthening ties with the rest of the Richmond Valley council area, Brian O’Farrell event organiser said.
The event was officially opened by the Governor of NSW and his wife David and Linda Hurley.
“Pride, determination and community is very evident” across the area, Gov Hurley said.
There was strong pride in local industries. Determination in the face of many pressures on country towns that was a real showing of the traditional spirit of country Australia.
Plus there was real and rich concern for people less well off, and the community showed many times that it would come together to help those in need, he said.
Oak St in Evans Head was closed to traffic and became a fair ground for the day with many entertainment, merchandise and food stalls.
The event included a busking competition, a tug-o-war series, dancing displays, as well as a parade.
It was also the first official event for Georgie King who has been crowned the 2016 Casino Beef Week Queen on Saturday night.
“It feels fantastic, I was very excited,” she said.
“Beef Week is bigger than Christmas in my house,” she said.
