Beau cooks up a new path
BEAU Cook entered Masterchef to change his life and now the 27-year-old plans to change the lives of others.
The former construction worker from Victoria was eliminated from the competition tonight night after a few costly mistakes in the Kylie Kwong elimination challenge which saw him miss out on a spot in the top seven.
"I made a few little boo-boos and my dish wasn't the best," he said.
"It sucked when they called my name out to leave - one part of me wanted to stay and win but it was also a relief to be able to get back to real life."
Cook first discovered his passion for food and cooking five years ago after watching Jamie Oliver cooking fresh veggies plucked straight from the garden.
"I thought that was a great natural way to cook and looked like fun and it pretty much went from there.
"I'm really inspired by Jamie Oliver and what he does, if I could do just 0.5% of what he does then I would be very happy."
Already on his way to following the footsteps of his idol, Cook is working on creating a café/community garden in his home town for youth to grow their own veggies, learn how to prepare and cook them as well as serve them in a café environment.
"It will teach them all aspects of hospitality," he said.
"There are a lot of disadvantaged teens and I think this could be a positive change for them."
Cook's other passion in life is fitness, sport and getting healthy and he hopes to incorporate these into a program that he can take into schools and talk to the kids about the importance of taking care of yourself.
"It would be my absolute dream come true to work with Alice [Zavlask] and work together with kids."
