Beaches reopen following weekend's shark sightings

BEACHES in the Ballina Shire were reopened this morning after being closed for 48 hours due to shark sightings.

Richmond LAC Inspector Doug Conners said the aerial surveillance conducted this morning did not spot any sharks.
He said there had been no shark sightings since yesterday.

As a result, Insp Conners said beaches were reopened at 10am.

This follows Friday's attack by a Great White shark on 51-year-old Evans Head surfer Craig Ison.

Beaches around Evans Head were closed on Saturday and reopened on Sunday.
