Bay resort's star rises

THE Byron at Byron Resort stole the show at the 2009 Hotel Accommodation Management Awards this month.

The resort won one award and was runner-up in another in front of the 440-strong Sydney audience of hoteliers in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

The resort took out the top accolade for a 4 to 4½-star hotel and was runner-up in the Best Resort category.

The awards are hosted annually and presented by leading industry magazine HM - Hotel & Accommodation Management.

Managing editor James Wilkinson said: “In so many awards ceremonies it's all about the hotel itself. But the HM Awards are really about the oft-forgotten fact that the industry is so much more than just bricks, mortar, king-size beds and goose-down pillows.

“It's the people that make hotels what they are, and that's why we believe they should receive the most recognition.”

The Spa and Wellness Centre at The Byron at Byron this month also picked up a high achievement award for excellence in the Pevonia Hotel/Resort Spa Awards.

Spa manager Melinda Dunn said she was proud of her team.

“This is a wonderful achievement for the therapists, and a great reward for all their nurturing and the quality of their treatments. We continually strive to exceed our guests' previous experiences,” she said.
