Baseball pitch into Anzac Cup
FNC Baseball will start its 75th season with the return of the Anzac Cup.
All games will be played Sundays at 11am at Albert Park baseball fields in Lismore in two grades starting March 11.
Along with FNC Baseball's 75th season, there are two other clubs that will celebrate reunion seasons - Norths (65 years) and Workers (50 years).
The competition proper will start on April 14.
It should be a close one in the major league with 2011 grand finalist Easts Redbirds and Marist Brothers the top teams to beat.
Redbirds were the 2011 minor and major premiers and they will field the same combination.
Players to watch will be Nick Shailes, Matt Best and Michael Munro.
Brothers will also have the same combination and again will be hard to topple.
They have an impressive combination led by Matt Buckley and their younger players Jake Muscat and Matt Wyatt are improving every season.
Brothers have a young squad and will improve from last season due to their youth and the experience they gained from playing in last year's grand final.
Workers have an older team but they will be no pushovers.
Their experience makes them a strong outfit led by brothers Scott and Mick McClelland along with Dallas Knapp and Wayne Devlin.
Workers' strength will be their hitting and all other teams will need to be careful with their pitching when playing them.
Norths are the only team to again lose players.
Matt Vidler and Clint McCarthy are unavailable and James Linger is out due to an operation on his ankle that he injured while playing in the USA.
They were the top three players in Norths' batting line-up and to replace them will be difficult.
