Baseball juniors hold their own

IT'S not a mainstream sport but the dedicated members and players of Casino Baseball Club are making their mark on the game.

Recently six of their seven juniors competed in the Timberjacks Tournament in Lismore.

"It's a tournament that invites teams from the Far North Coast, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney and even New Caledonia," Casino Baseball Club president Ian Leven said.

"Having six of our juniors in the tournament is quite an achievement for Casino Baseball Club."

While the club doesn't have enough juniors in the U12s-U20s age groups to field a full team, which means they play for other clubs or their senior teams to get games in, Mr Leven is aiming to increase those numbers.

"One of our goals is to be able to enter a junior team of our own," he said.

"It's about giving kids a go."

The seniors teams have three more home games to play this season which happen at Bruton St, Casino on Saturdays at 12.30pm.

"People are welcome to come and watch our games," Mr Leven said.
