Baseball club inducts tenth life member
FAR North Coast Baseball has inducted its tenth life member at its recent annual dinner with Rod Green bestowed with the honour.
Rod began his baseball career with Workers Club in 1976 and has been loyal to the club ever since.
Only recently retiring from playing, he still puts in many volunteer hours, both for his own club and the FNC Association.
His career saw him represent FNC for many years in the junior ranks, with the highlight being his selection in the Queensland Under-13 team.
Rod's first commitments to FNC Baseball came in the 1990s where he volunteered with labour on the upkeep of the fields during tournaments.
This led to him taking up the full-time role of groundsman, which saw the whole Albert Park complex drastically improve, not only on the diamonds, but also to the spectator and surrounding areas.
From the year 2000 up until the present day Rod continues to put in many hours of volunteer hours, including FNC delegate to Baseball Queensland, Albert Park facilities maintenance, FNC Board member and stints in the running of the canteen.
The FNC Baseball has awarded Rod the Commissioner's Award three times in the past 16 years and in 2014 he won the Lismore Australia Day Award for Services to the Community.
FNC Baseball has been granted numerous State and National Tournaments due to the volunteer base in the Lismore region and the quality of the facilities at Albert Park.
At these tournaments Rod would put in up to 16 hours a day to ensure the upkeep of the fields and cleaning the stands, ready for the next days action.
With the floods which hit Albert Park in March saw Rod spend much of his spare time in organising and assisting in the clean-up of the fields.
Players from across the globe are in awe of the facilities at Albert Park and the quality of the complex and this is testament to Rods work in up keeping the complex.
Rod joins the other nine members in Laurie Thew, Charlie Phinn, Allan Smith, Reg Baxter, Harold Crozier, Terry Moulder, Bill O'Sullivan, John McKee and Rick Healy.
