A GOLD Coast barista has been embroiled in a scandal surrounding The Bachelor star Matty 'J' Johnson.

Former Palm Beach Currumbin High student Kiri Kennedy, 21, claims Matty J flirted with her behind jewellery designer Laura Byrne's back during filming on The Bachelor.

Johnson gave his final rose, and a ring, to Byrne on the final episode of the Channel 10 reality TV series.

Bookies and fans had Byrne pegged as most likely to win the show from the beginning after she scored the first kiss with Sydney-based Bachelor Johnson.

In an interview with New Idea, Kennedy says Johnson, 30, stunned onlookers and crew from the hit TV series when he sent a worker over to ask her to hang around so The Bachelor star could meet her.

"Flirting and wanting to meet up with me makes it all a bit unbelievable, don't you think," she says.

Kennedy says she was working at Plonk Beach Cafe on Sydney's North Shore when cameras started rolling on Byrne and Johnson's first date on the reality show.

"My co-workers pointed out to me that Johnson kept looking at me between filming and smiling," Kennedy says.

"I was busy working when a person from the production team approached me and said, "Matty is with his girl at the moment and can't talk right now, but he would like you to hang around to meet him after she leaves'.

"I decided to leave when my shift finished because in all honesty it didn't feel right to stay.

"All I know is that I would be very disappointed with him if I was in his new girlfriend's shoes."

Byrne has said watching Johnson kiss the other girls on the show was certainly uncomfortable and not just because of affection.

"There were some people in the house who had had cold sores and I was like, 'Oh, dude. nup. I'm not OK with this!" she said.
