Barca closes gap at top of La Liga with victory

GOALS from Paco Alcacer, Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal have helped Barcelona to a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.

The victory took the Catalan giant to within one point of rival Real Madrid at the top of the ladder.

Madrid still has two games in hand over Barca after its game at Celta Vigo yesterday was called off because of damage to the Balaidos Municipal Stadium following a storm.

Alcacer, who replaced the rested Luis Suarez, scored his first La Liga goal for Barcelona after poking home Neymar's cross from 10 yards.

Messi doubled the lead with a free-kick before Vidal sealed the win after a solo run past several defenders before shooting home.

That goal meant Barca became the first European team to score 100 times in all competitions this season, with Monaco also reaching the landmark later in the afternoon.
