Bank teller threatened in robbery
A BANK teller was threatened by a man armed with a hunting knife during a daring armed robbery at Coffs Harbour's ANZ Bank yesterday afternoon.
A hold-up alarm was activated at the Harbour Dr bank at 1.50pm, prompting a large police response.
It is understood the man produced the large serrated knife and threatened the staff member.
Police said the teller handed over a small sum of cash and the offender fled the bank.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Officers canvassed the nearby area as a description of the offender was circulated.
A short time later police detained and handcuffed a man on Thompson's Rd but he was cleared of any wrongdoing and released without charge.
Police said detectives were last night pursuing a number of leads and the bank did not re-open after a crime scene was established.
The offender, who disguised his face under a dark large- brimmed hat, was described as being Caucasian in appearance about 180cm tall, of thin build with dark hair.
Anyone with information is urged to call Coffs Harbour Police via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
