UPDATE 4.45PM: BANGALOW Road was reopened to traffic.

The driver of the ute was taken to surgery at Lismore Base Hospital and the driver of the truck was also taken to Lismore Base to undergo mandatory blood and urine testing.

UPDATE 12.20pm: BANGALOW Road is expected to be closed for several hours while officers of from the North Coast Crash Investigation Unit examine the scene of a smash involving a gas truck and a car near the Eltham Rd turnoff.

Lismore police sergeant Matt Johnson said diversions remain in place in both directions.

Light Vehicles are being diverted via Booyong Road, Ballina Pearce Road, then Eltham Road to rejoin Bangalow Road, while vehicles over 19m are being urged to use the Bruxner Highway and Pacific Highway.

UPDATE 12.10pm: A MAN believed to be in his mid 30s has been taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition after being trapped in his car following a crash that has closed Bangalow Rd.

Emergency services including NSW Ambulance, police, Fire and Rescue NSW, Rural Fire Service and Roads and Traffic Authority staff were called to the scene.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said once the man was freed from his vehicle he was treated at the scene for multiple leg injuries and lacerations to his head.

The spokesman said when the man was stabilised at the scene he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

A Newcastle Fire Communications spokesman said the NSW Fire and Rescue Goonellabah hazmat unit and Lismore pumper tasked to the scene had secured the crash are and several LPG gas cylinders.

The spokesman said NSW Fire and Rescue units handed the scene over to the Rural Fire Service, who were waiting for officers from the North Coast Crash Investigation Unit to arrive.

 

UPDATE 10.25am: A MAN is trapped following a crash on Bangalow Road between Bexhill and Clunes, a spokesperson from NSW Fire and Rescue have said.

Emergency services are currently working to free the 40-year-old man, while a Hazmat unit are also scene as there were a couple of gas cylinders possibly on board a two-tonne ute, the spokesperson said.

Live Traffic NSW is reporting that Bangalow Road is closed in both directions following the crash 10km west of Clunes.
