BALLINA Players excitedly walked away from the Gold Coast Area Theatre Awards this week with two of the most prestigious awards held in their hands.

President of Ballina Payers, Warwick Binny, said the whole team at Ballina Players was over the moon with their achievements, proud to have been recognised for all the hard work they put in each year.

The team had arrived with eight nominations at the awards, a fantastic achievement in itself as the Gold Coast Theatre Alliance which in 2012 included 34 member companies and 64 performances, said Mr Binney.

Ballina Players proudly won the ultimate award of the evening, the Platinum Palm Award, which is 'presented to the individual or company deemed to have given outstanding service to the theatre community.'

In addition to this award, which Mr Binney said is awarded for the 'total package' of what Ballina Players offers, local woman Joy Miller won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in the Ballina Players recent production of The Mousetrap.

The local group is certainly proving it's motto: 'Regional theatre at it's best.'
