Ballina seals win late in preliminary final match

TEENAGER Cori Hardy was the hero as Ballina edged out East Lismore in a dramatic women's A-grade preliminary final.

The 14-year-old struck an extra-time winner to help her side defeat Easts 2-1 in Saturday's contest.

It was a quality match at the Goonellabah turf between the two teams, who treated spectators to an entertaining contest.

Ballina was on top early with a couple of penalty corners. Their pressure was rewarded in the 10th minute after great lead up work helped Kerrilee Brown score.

East Lismore replied immediately with Karlea Healy converting a penalty corner.

Both sides had their opportunities but some great chances were not converted before halftime.

In the second period, both sides continued to have moments of pressure, but another breakthrough proved elusive.

Easts had some late pressure, hitting the post and earning a penalty corner, but they could not claim a winner.

Neither side could force a goal until the final minute of extra-time, when Hardy swept home.

The result prompted jubilant scenes among Ballina players, who will now take on Glee in this Saturday's grand final.
