Ballina flights behind the times

FLIGHTS to and from Ballina-Byron Gateway Airport are some of the most unpunctual in the country, according to a recent Department of Infrastructure and Transport report.

The report, which assesses performances of airlines and airports between January and June, concluded that just 67% of Ballina flights departed on time.

Of the three airlines which used Ballina airport, Jetstar had 73.5% of its flights leave on time and out-performed Virgin Australia by 1.1%.

Regional Express came in a distant third with just 52% of its flights departing on time.

However, Regional Express had more flights leave when scheduled from Melbourne Airport than any other airline.

The report defines on-time departures and arrivals as those which landed or left within 15 minutes of the scheduled time and only airlines which carried more than 8000 passengers per month through the airport were taken into account.

The most unreliable airports in the country are Kalgoorlie with 59.6% of all flights departing on time and Coffs Harbour with 61.7%.

Running late

Ballina-Byron Gateway Airport ranks sixth worst in Australia with a high percentage of flights departing late.
