Ballina DoCS office evacuated

THE police bomb squad from Lismore has been called to the Ballina office of Family and Community Services in Tamar St to inspect a suspicious package in the building.

NSW Fire and Rescue's Hazardous Material's unit is on the scene, along with police and ambulance officers.

It was believed the package was an envelope addressed to the manager, which had an unknown substance leaking from it.

It also was believed the envelope has a message on its back from a parent wanting the return of their child.

The building was evacuated.
