Ballina comes to life with the return of key players
BALLINA came to life in defeating Barbarians 5-2 and Coraki were rolled 4-2 by Bears in A-grade men's hockey on Saturday.
A rejuvenated Ballina made no mistake in their win over Barbarians.
The home side welcomed back Tyler and Jarred Arundel along with Cameron Palmer, who have all been absent this season.
With a full complement, they were able to play some good hockey.
Sam Davis opened the scoring with an early field goal and Laurie Urquhart responded almost immediately.
Both sides had their chances through the rest of the first half but went to the break at 1-all.
When Urquhart scored his second just after half-time, Barbarians were looking the goods.
Ballina struggled for a short time before successive goals to Jarred Arundel, Lou Morgan, Brody Robinson and Corey Watson sealed their second consecutive win in this competition.
Coraki were without Ethan White, Brent White and Mitch Dunstan and struggled against a good Bears side at Grafton.
Bears led 3-0 in no time, scoring from two penalty corners and a field goal.
Coraki did better in the second half, with Bailey Powell scoring two quick goals, rattling the home side.
They continued to apply the pressure but a controversial late penalty stroke converted by Bears sealed the win.
