Ballina Chamber’s one hundred years
IT WAS Wednesday, July 8, 1914, when the Ballina Chamber of Commerce was founded in the Ballina Council Chambers.
The Northern Star informed the community of the newly created organisation in its edition the following Friday, July 10.
"There are many chambers of commerce in the State but the general complaint is apathy," said the article.
"Large towns by a long way have commenced brilliantly, but after a few months the organisation has been allowed to die away.
"It is now up to the Ballina people to se that their baby body is well nourished."
A century later, Ballina Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit business support organisation made up of leaders and business owners in the Ballina community.
The Chamber provides value for members through advocacy, representation, information, education, promotion and networking.
