Ballina car show loses its shine

RAIN and floods have caused the cancellation of yet another Ballina event – this time it is the popular show 'n' shine.

Organised by North Coast Street Machines, the event brings hot rods and classic cars from all across Australia to Kingsford Smith Park.

This would have been their 22nd show 'n' shine.

But on Tuesday night the organisers made the decision to cancel.

President Rob Grill said they had no other option.

“At our car club meeting, a decision was made to cancel our show 'n' shine, due to be held on Sunday in Ballina, because of the difficult situation in our surrounding areas in Queensland and NSW,” he said.

“We thank you for your support of our show and hope to see all the participants at next year's show.”

The Ballina Jockey Club has been forced to cancel two events in recent weeks.

The first was the Boxing Day Races, which normally attracts about 4000 people.

The club also cancelled a TAB meeting on Tuesday due to a water-logged track.

Its next TAB meeting is on January 23, featuring the $50,000 Iris Nielsen Handicap (1400m) for women jockeys.
