Ballina bikie charged after violent arrest

THE alleged president of the Ballina chapter of the Rebels bikie gang has been charged after being tasered and arrested following a violent clash with police at a hotel in Ballina on Saturday morning.

Police were conducting a routine inspection of the hotel on Moon St about 1am on Saturday when a patron allegedly became abusive.

Police will allege the 33-year-old man was tasered after he became aggressive and threatened officers. He was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballina Police Station.

The man, who police allege is president of the Ballina Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang has been charged with intimidating police and failing to quit a premises.

The Ballina man was granted strict conditional bail to appear in Ballina Local Court on Thursday, July 17.
