Ball Park Music's local roots are deep
BALL Park Music is a five-piece indie rock/pop band based in Brisbane, made up of frontman Sam Cromack (guitar / vocals), Jennifer Boyce (bass / backing vocals), Paul Furness (keys / trombone), and twins Dean Hanson (guitar / backing vocals) and Daniel Hanson (drums / backing vocals).
The band is getting ready for their Falls Festival shows around the country, and it is at the beginning of our chat to Sam Cromack that he explains the band is mostly formed by Northern Rivers musicians.
"I grew up in Lennox Head and moved to Brisbane aged 18, when I finished school," he said.
"I'm 27 now so that was nine years ago."
"My parents both still live in Lennox Head and the twin brothers (Dean and Daniel) are from Goonellabah."
"We all have very strong connections to the Northern Rivers."
"Brisbane is a big part of my identity now but in my heart and in the twin's hearts we still see NSW as our home."
Regarding the rest of the band's connections to the area, Cromack said they also have strong ties to the Northern Rivers.
"Paul is a Brisbane boy through and through, but since we have been here so many times for our shows plus we have done Splendour a number of times, and the times we have been down there with my family, Jen (Boyce) has a massive affinity for the area."
"She really likes it down there and she speculates sometimes she could live in a place like Bangalow in the future," Sam Cromack said.
Ball Park Music's latest album, Every Night The Same Dream, was released last August, with three singles out from that record: Pariah, Nihilist Party Anthem and Whipping Boy.
