B Double accident on the Bruxner Highway west of Casino

UPDATE:

TWO drivers were trapped for more than an hour after an accident yesterday morning between a semi-trailer and a sedan on the Bruxner Highway near Mummulgum.

Just before 10am, a semi-trailer carrying around 160 pigs and a sedan collided head-on, trapping both drivers in their vehicles, with the sedan landing on the truck's cabin.

Both drivers were treated in their vehicles by NSW Ambulance paramedics from Casino, Kyogle and Lismore, as well as the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter doctor and paramedic.

The Casino Volunteer Rescue Squad was the first responders, freeing the drivers, and rescuing more than 100 of the pigs.

The male driver of the truck was taken by road ambulance to the Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.

The female driver of the sedan was airlifted by helicopter to the Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition with multiple injuries.

 

UPDATE:

THE Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was tasked to the accident just before 10am this morning, on the Bruxner Highway 20kms west of Casino at Theresa Creek.

A semi trailer caring live pigs and a sedan collided head on trapping both drivers in their vehicles for over an hour.

Both patients were treated in their vehicles by NSW Ambulance Paramedics from Casino, Kyogle and Lismore as well as the Helicopter doctor and paramedic.

After being released from the vehicle, the male driver of the truck was assessed at the scene before being transported by road ambulance to the Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.

The female driver of the sedan was transported by Helicopter to the Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition with multiple trauma injuries.

 

INITIAL REPORT:

TWO DRIVERS are trapped in their vehicles after an accident between a semi-trailer and small SUV on the Bruxner Highway west of Casino earlier this morning.

Police and Emergency Services including the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter are now at the crash scene, where a Toyota Rav4 has ended up sitting on top of an overturned B-Double.

Both drivers are trapped and injured with head, leg, and possible spinal injuries.

The Bruxner Highway has been closed in both directions near Theresa Creek Rd.

The  Crash Investigation Unit has been called.
