Awards night set to toast business

THE business community's an- swer to the Oscars, the Richmond Valley Business Excellence Awards, will be held in Casino on Saturday night, and it looks like being a sell-out.

The awards are organised by the Casino Chamber of Commerce and Industry to celebrate the achievements of local businesses and recognise their contribution to the community.

Awards will be presented in 12 categories including Best New Business, Excellence in Retail, Excellence in Tourism, Exceptional Community Service, Outstanding Apprentice/Trainee of the Year and the major award, Business of the Year.

The chamber will also present two long-running Casino businesses with special Achievement Awards and announce the winner of the People's Choice Award, which has been run in conjunction with the business awards.

Chamber of Commerce co-ordinator Sonya Marks said the awards night was shaping up to be "absolutely fantastic".

"Tickets for the night are close to selling out and we're really pleased with the submissions we received for the awards," Ms Marks said.

"We've probably received the biggest number of entries in the Best Professional Service, Exceptional Community Service, Excellence in Retail, and Business of the Year categories.

"The other categories have also been well represented."

One of the highlights of the night will be the announcement of the People's Choice Award as voted on by the public and the drawing of a $1000 travel prize.

All eligible votes from the public for the People's Choice Award will go into the draw for the travel prize.

Voting closes on Friday at midday and with a voting form in today's Express Examiner, members of the public still have time to get their vote in and be in the running to win the travel voucher provided by the Casino Travel Shoppe.
